Bloodborne Pathogen (AKA: HIV, HBV, HCV Prevention Training)

Why learn (or relearn) CPR?

 

Cardiac arrest is the leading killer in the nation for both male and female adults. A cardiac event is happening every 39 seconds!  Though sudden cardiac arrest is most common, someone can also die from secondary cardiac arrest.  Both sudden cardiac arrest and secondary cardiac arrest can happen to persons of any age.

 

Does quality CPR matter?

 

Yes!  There is value to all life and any effort someone makes on behalf of another individual needs to be commended.  But quality does matter.  Although quality CPR by no means guarantees success, it can absolutely increase the odds for success.

Ergonomics & Loss Prevention

Summary

Understanding and applying ergonomic principles and best practices can make a substantial economic difference for organizations small and large.

 

It has been said that forty-three cents of every dollar going toward worker’s compensation claims in Washington state is for Work Related Musculo-Skeletal Disorders (WRMSD) of the back, shoulder, elbow, hand, wrist, and knee. (WA L&I Technical Report 40-12-2015-a, Feb. 2015). So a question we need to ask is,  should an employer:

  • Fit the task to the worker, or
  • Fit the worker to the task?

Hazardous Communication (AKA: Global Harmonization System or GHS)

Paracelsus – the Father of Toxicology – is credited as saying, “All things are poison and nothing is without poison; only the dose makes a thing not a poison.”

 

The Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) is now aligned with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).   The “Right to Know” is now, the “Right to Understand”.

 

These updates/changes are designed to provide a clear and universal approach to identifying and classifying Hazardous Chemicals within any organization. Having a basic understanding of any chemical a company has at its work site is essential for having proper safety at that work site.

This course will start with a clear understanding of how and why Hazardous Communications changed to Global Harmonized System (GHS). Guidelines from WAC 296-800-170 and 296-901 will be referenced.  In addition:

  • Companies must have a written HAZCOM Plan.

Hearing Loss Prevention

Summary

Hearing loss is truly an injury that silently robs people of their hearing. And it so often can/is preventable. Unlike other injuries, hearing loss is not visible to the worker, thereby making it harder to detect when someone is injured. Yet, it remains a serious health issue in both the home and in the workplace. And because hearing loss is often very gradual, it frequently goes undetected until it is too late and permanent damage has been done. According to WA State Labor & Industries; “Prevention begins with identifying noise sources and evaluating workers’ exposures to find out if noise exposure is hazardous. When a hazard is found, employers are required to make changes to reduce or eliminate the noise hazard and educate the workforce about noise and hearing conservation. If the noise problem persists, further testing and protective measures are required.”

Proper Presentation Pressure

The value of checking for misguided attitudes or actions when speaking.

Summary

Tires can become over-inflated or under-inflated often resulting in a negative or unsafe outcome. Likewise, I believe our presentations can become over-inflated or under-inflated often resulting in a negative or unfruitful outcome.
