Young adult orphans are learning first aid, including major wound care. There is value to human life. These amazing young adults are affirming value to Burundian life.

I just returned from Burundi, Africa. While there I had the privilege of working with some amazing orphans sponsored by Sister Connection. Though never having had a health class before, these brave and inquisitive young adults learned first aid skills that will be applicable to their lives and communities.

After having learned about wound care including: Direct pressure, wound packing for deeper wounds, tourniquet for severe bleeding, they were also taught the value of comfort care as a legitimate first aid skill that can be applied to any and all who are ill or injured. https://shawnritchey.com/comfort-care-is-first-aid-and-should-be-an-essential-item-in-your-first-aid-kit-but-what-is-comfor-care/

In this video they worked as a team to provide wound packing, application of a non-commercial tourniquet, and the value of comfort care (The woman at the manikins head - Enes - is reminded by our lead Burundian teacher to offer comfort care.)

Notice they also had to offer these skills while dealing with plastic bags on their hands rather than medical gloves. A more probable reality for most of them in day to day life.
