The Good Samaritan, 2nd in this series. How Should We View Him?

This is the second in a series on the Good Samaritan. How should we view him? In this post we consider how the audience who heard Jesus share the parable (story) of the Good Samaritan viewed people from Samaria. Though his name is in good standing now with countless clinics, hospitals, and laws named in his honor, in Jesus' day, a person from Samaria was viewed as a half-bread. A person from Samaria would be considered illegitimate to the "pure" Jew. Samaria was so despised by most Jews of Jesus' day, that they would rather travel around the geographic area than travel through it even this to travel through it would be a more direct route from Galilee to Jerusalem.

How do we view people of mixed race today? How do we view people we consider as "less pure" or on the fringe?
