Mercy, the word in the Hebrew Bible has it's root in the word for womb. It represents a deep, protective love a mother has for her child. This is the love of God. Jesus speaks of, and models, mercy frequently in the Greek Bible. Mercy - acting and showing compassion, kindness, patience, lovingkindness, goodwill, mercy - is for all humanity. If our actions or our church or our family or our government or our nation or our neighborhood or our religion is not leading with mercy toward others, then we are not representing God who created us.
