Water is Essential for Our Body. Living Water is Essential for Our Souls.

Though I speak often about first aid and related topics, this video is intentionally spiritual in nature and content.

Water, as an essential substance for human life, is indisputable. Living water for our souls may not be universally understood, nor accepted, but I would contend it is no less essential for our soul health as water is for our physical health.

In the Bible account of creation, Genesis 1:2 says, "The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters." The Spirit of God was present and intimately involved from the start of creation. Rivers flowed "out of Eden to water the garden..." (Genesis 2:10-ff)

On several occasions God worked through Moses miraculously to provide sustaining water to the Hebrew people as they traveled in the desert (Exodus 15:22-26, Exodus 17:1-7, etc.)

The Prophet Isaiah spoke frequently about God sending a Messiah who would heal, rescue, and save Israel, and all people of the whole earth who turn to him in humility and trust (Isaiah 9:2-7, 11:1-3, 49:6, etc). Isaiah 12:3 is a verse that was quoted by the Hebrew people during the Feast of Tabernacles. It says, "With joy you will drink deeply from the fountain of salvation."

The Hebrew word for salvation is Yeshua. In English this would be translated, Jesus.

When Jesus came on the scene he frequently demonstrated healing and rescuing many who were ill, injured, or demon possessed. Then, during the Feast of Tabernacles, Jesus stood on the last and greatest day of the feast and proclaimed, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'

This statement probably reflects Proverbs 4:23, Isaiah 58:11 and others.

We then learn from the author inspired by God that Jesus was referring to the Holy Spirit (John 7:37-39).

And that brings us right back to the beginning of creation when the Holy Spirit hovered the formless earth and waters. In Jesus, we also see a culmination of all things when the new heaven and new earth are established at his return. (Revelation 22:1-5).
